With a simple phone call, my customer tells me he has acquired a 1961 Aston Martin which he'd like us to prepare for Pebble Beach. What year I ask. He tells me the one in eight months. I take a few breaths and figure why not? And so began the adventure of a life time.
To take a 46 year old car that had seen duty as a vintage race car for seventeen years was quite a task. Starting with the engine bay everything had been modified from wrong carburetors to modified distributors, aluminum radiator, throttle positioning sensor and so forth. So many things were not original that it required a trip to England, a lot of barn scrounging and a friend who knew what we needed. The car was brought down to bare frame and totally rebuilt, after all our class required a car as built by the factory and the judges at Pebble Beach knew what to look for.
The results for all the effort brought a tie in points and second overall. This car had set the land speed record at Bonneville right out of the show room, however the other car had raced at Goodwood and LeMans with very famous drivers. Not bad for seven months of work!
